The Kids Are All Right - SPOILERS

SPOILERS:

We have 2 lesbian mothers married with 2 teen children.  Each mother bore a child using Paul's Sperm, and now the children locate him and develop a relationship.  The mothers are a bit reluctant but they learn to deal with him in their lives.

Paul is a carefree single man.  He meets the parents and gives one of them a job doing some landscaping.  Jules had just bought a truck to open up her own landscaping business, and Paul makes a nice gesture by hiring her.

The daughter likes Paul and they develop a sweet relationship.  The son is a little reserved and taking it slow with him, but does come around.  The relationships with the kids and parents seem to be a bit strained, and the mothers themselves have some issues themselves.

One day when Jules was working at Paul's, she kisses him, and they continue to kiss for a few seconds.  She pulls away realizing her mistake.  However, the next time it happens, it leads to sex, and we see some provocative sex scenes.  They continue to have sex a few more days.  Paul admits he's falling for her, and that worries Jules.  She says they can't do that anymore.  Nic, Jules wife, finds out they slept together and have an argument that the kids overhear.  Of course this adds to the stain in the family, but they tolerate each other and try to cope with everyday life.

We only see Paul again for one more short scene, and then oddly he's left out of the rest of the movie.  He talked to his daughter to apologize at the front door, and that was it.  Soon she heads off to college, and the movie ends.

My thoughts:

If you read my review, you know I'm not a fan.  This movie was quite profane at times.  I didn't appreciate the mothers cursing the F-word around the kids as much as they did.  It was also uneasy watching them explaining to their kids how they enjoy male gay porn.  Add infidelity to the mix, and it really gets offensive.  I also didn't like how Paul was treated in the end.  He really was sincere about his feelings for Jules, and was nice to the kids, and he was just dismissed too easily in the end.  He wasn't even the one who initiated that first kiss.  The message of the movie wasn't positive at all.  The kids were the best part of the movie, as they were the most likable and mature.  Of course they are probably the most hurt from all this too.  I really don't understand how some critics take all this as a comedy -- it was just too serious for me to laugh.
