Driver is released from prison after 10 years with only revenge his mind. Revenge of his brothers death at a botched bank robbery they were involved in, and were set up in. He has paid for a car and gun to be left for him, and a list of the people he wants to kill. Right away he heads for his first hit, enters the office building right up to the mans cubical, and shoots him right in the head and walks out.
Billy Bob, "The Cop", is seen in an early scene buying drugs, and now he's on the case trying to find Driver. Another guy after Driver is a young billionaire hitman who takes these types of jobs for the thrill of it, and only charges $1 for his fee. He finds Driver as Driver makes a hit on his second target, and older perverted man who just drugged a girl in his apartment. Driver kills the guy before he takes advantage of the girl. The hitman didn't shoot Driver at this time, as Driver got away.
Driver's third target is a bouncer at a night club, and Driver follows him into the bathroom, and the 2 have a fight to what should be the death. They have knives only, and it appears as Driver killed the man. He later finds out he's still alive and being sent to the hospital. Driver heads to the hospital to finish the job. The Cop goes to the hospital on a hunch and waits. Driver shows up and enters the emergency room and kills the man while he's being operated on, right there on the operating table. The Cop hears the shots and races threw the halls to try and catch Driver, and even fires some shots, but misses. He gets away.
Drivers next target is a preacher. Driver meets up with him as he is preaching, and has him take a walk with him afterwards to a beach area. The preacher seems to be a reformed man, and he pleads for his life, and at the very least for forgiveness. Driver says he cannot forgive, and points the gun to the preacher, but, he can't pull the trigger. He tells him to go home to his family.
Driver heads back to the church area and appears to be praying, and then the hitman shows up with his gun pointed at Driver. He likes the sport of killing and wants Driver to reach for his gun, but he does not. At this point, The Cop, (Billy Bob) shows up and tells the hitman to drop the gun. He does, and here is the twist -- The Cop shoots Driver in the back of the head. It turns out the Cop is crooked. He was the one who hired the hit on Driver, because he was the one 10 years earlier who set up Driver and his brothers gang the day of the bank robbery. He needed to clean up some lose ends and wanted Driver dead.
As The Cop is walking away as if hes the hero who just killed the bad guy, Driver comes to him and shoots him dead. Driver survived the shot to the head because his skull is protected by a metal plate.
The hitman had left to start a new life, and Driver just drives off into the sunset. The End.
