Dallas Buyers Club

Dallas, Texas 1985 - Ron Woodroof (Matthew McConaughey) is at a rodeo having sex with a woman. He appears tired and starts hearing a loud ringing noise. The bull throws one man off its back, and everybody rushes to his aid.

Later, Ron is collecting money while noticing a newspaper article reporting that actor Rock Hudson has been diagnosed with AIDS. Ron muses how a man like him who could get any woman he wants would fall into this predicament. When Ron is up to ride the bull, he runs away with everybody's money. The men chase after him until he runs into his police officer friend Tucker (Steve Zahn). Ron tells Tucker to arrest him, though Tucker knows Ron is in some kind of jam. Ron punches Tucker in the face and gets one back in the mouth. Tucker drives Ron to his home when he starts stumbling on inside. He hears the ringing sound again as he enters his place before collapsing to the floor.

When he comes to the next morning, Ron goes to his job as an electrician. We get an idea of Ron's nature when he comments on one of his friend's plans to go work in Saudi Arabia by asking why he would want to work for a bunch of "sand n-ggers", and also commenting on the customs with women which would not allow him to have sex with them being reason enough for him to not go. One of his co-workers, an illegal immigrant, gets his leg caught under the wheel of a vehicle. Ron opens the electric box to fix it when it blows up in his face..

Ron wakes up in the hospital and is met by Dr. Sevard (Denis O'Hare) and Dr. Eve Saks (Jennifer Garner). After doing doing some blood work, they inform Ron that he has been tested positive for HIV. Sevard asks Ron if he has been using intravenous drugs or if he's ever engaged in homosexual activity, to which Ron misinterprets as being called a faggot, and then repeatedly insisting he is not that. Sevard determines that Ron has 30 days to live, but Ron boasts that nothing could kill him in that time.

Ron goes home to continue his frivolous lifestyle by snorting coke and having sex with prostitutes. His friend T.J. (Kevin Rankin) laughs off the diagnosis, as he was once told he had chlamydia when he really had crabs. Still, Ron dwells on the news and goes to the library to do some research on AIDS. He reads an article on how the majority of people who have tested positive for AIDS are homosexual and bisexual men, people who use intravenous drugs, and people who engage in unprotected sex. Thinking about all the unprotected sex he's been having, Ron yells "FUCK!" in frustration.

A new drug called AZT is in the testing stages. Ron becomes aware of it and goes to the hospital to ask Sevard for some, but he isn't there. He instead sees Eve, but she is unable to provide him with any.

Ron goes to a bar to meet up with his friends. One of the men named Clint (J.D. Evermore) tells Ron, "Get me another beer, sweetheart" before moving on to homophobic slurs. Ron gets pissed and tries to hit him before leaving and cursing at everyone. He retreats to a strip club later in the day and spots a janitor he recognizes from the hospital. He has a chat with him, and over the next couple of days, the janitor throws AZT in the dumpster for Ron to retrieve.

Over the next few weeks, Ron takes AZT in large doses, which only weakens him further. The janitor has run out of refills, so he gives Ron a piece of paper with the name of a doctor he can locate in Mexico. Ron angrily swings at the janitor, though he misses and collapses again. He wakes up in the hospital once again to Eve and Sevard standing over his bed. They tell Ron he has received a blood transfusion, and they found out that he's been taking AZT through more blood work, though he won't say where he's gotten it from. When the doctors leave, Rayon (Jared Leto), a transvestite AIDS patient, walks over to greet him. Although Ron is put off by Rayon being a transvestite, the two start playing cards, with Rayon taking Ron's money. Rayon reveals that he's being paid to test AZT for a friend. Afterwards, Ron leaves the hospital without being properly dismissed. He goes home to find "faggot blood" spray-painted on the outside.

Ron drives down to Mexico with a gun in hand. For a while, he feels helpless and desperate, and he begins to cry. He eventually makes it there to meet Dr. Vass (Griffin Dunne). Vass sees that the AZT has broken down Ron's cells, making him feel worse. After three months, Ron develops full-blown AIDS. Vass provides him with non-approved drugs that Ron realizes can turn a fortune. Dressed as a priest, Ron drives toward the border and is briefly detained. An CDC representative uncovers all the pills that Ron is smuggling. Ron tells him that he has cancer, and that he is definitely not going to sell them for a profit.

Untrue to his word, Ron returns home to Texas and tries to sell the drugs to gay men who are unwilling to buy. Rayon enters Ron's car looking to buy for himself and 20 others, but Ron turns him away. Rayon decides that Ron doesn't deserve their money. Ron then follows him and decides to cut Rayon 25% if he helps him sell. The two then venture into the gay community, primarily gay bars, to seek potential customers. They come across a motel where they decide to begin their operation, which Ron calls "The Dallas Buyers Club".

Within two months, Ron and Rayon begin selling memberships for $400 apiece to the majority of gay and AIDS-afflicted citizens of Dallas. The duo even develop something of a friendship. During a supermarket run, Ron runs into T.J. and tries to introduce him to Rayon. T.J. refuses to shake Rayon's hand and uses a slur against him, making Ron angry enough to put him in a headlock and force him to shake Rayon's hand. Ron also grows concerned over Rayon's continuous drug use.

Eve gets wind of Ron's business as most of her patients are the ones going to see him. Although she disagrees with Ron's actions and tries to stop her patients from going to his motel, she eventually stops trying to fight him. The two even have dinner together one evening, in which Eve reveals a bit about herself, such as her originally studying history before moving onto medicine.

Ron travels around the world to Japan, Israel, and Amsterdam, among other places, to continue gathering other drugs that have not been approved by the FDA in the United States. While using one of the drugs at the airport, he suffers a heart attack. It's not long before the FDA also learns of Ron's business practices and takes all of Ron's inventory.

By March of 1987, the FDA has disapproved Peptide T, one of the drugs that Ron had been supplying. Elsewhere, Rayon sees his father, dressing up in a suit and combing his hair. He finally confronts his father about his disease. Rayon later hands Ron an envelope full of money which he says was given to him after selling his life insurance policy. The two men hug.

While he is with his boyfriend, Rayon starts coughing blood. He cries that he doesn't want to die, and his boyfriend takes him to the hospital. Not long after Ron returns from taking care of business, his secretary Denise (Deneen Tyler) informs him that Rayon was sent to the hospital. When he gets there, he finds Rayon's boyfriend holding his clothes and crying, and Ron realizes that Rayon is gone. He walks all the way to confront Sevard, pinning him against the wall and calling him a murderer before he is taken away by security. That night, Ron tries to relieve himself with a hooker, but he cries for Rayon.

Ron attends a meeting held by the antagonistic CDC representative to slam him and everybody involved with the FDA for holding back drugs that are better for patients as opposed to potentially hazardous ones like AZT. He argues that pharmaceutical companies pay them to push their drugs for them while there are better alternatives out there for him. He rouses up the attention of the crowd before he is sent out. Meanwhile, Eve is asked by her colleagues to resign after they learn of her involvement with the Dallas Buyers Club. She refuses and says they need to fire her. She walks out, but not before adding, as Ron would, "Y'all go fuck yerselves."

Six months later, Ron takes the FDA to the District Court in San Francisco. The judge admits that he is moved by Ron's actions, though there is not enough legal authority to help his case. Despite this, Ron returns home to applause from Eve and his clients.

The last scene features Ron going back to the rodeo and riding the bull. The epilogue text states that he died on September 12, 1992, seven years (2275 days) after his diagnosis. Additionally, Ron was allowed to use Peptide T prior to his death, and a lower dosage of AZT was later used for AIDS patients.  http://www.themoviespoiler.com/Spoilers/DallasBuyersClub.html
