World War Z

Short version:

Gerry Lane (Brad Pitt) discovers that the zombie virus does not infect, or like, unhealthy and possibly terminal host bodies.

While being trapped in the World Health Organization (WHO) facility, trying to get some curable diseases, he uses a vial on himself to get out of the zombie filled air bridge.

If a human host is infected with a disease, it acts as a camouflage, so the zombies do not go after you.  This information is circulated throughout the world.  A new vaccine is being dropped off in remote areas to act as a zombie deterrent.

Gerry is reunited with his family who was taken to a refugee camp in Nova Scotia, Canada. http://www.moviepooper.com/pooperpg2.html

Long Version:

Gerry Lane (Brad Pitt) is out for a drive on the streets of Philadelphia with his wife Karin (Mireille Enos) and daughters Constance (Sterling Jerins) and Rachel (Abigail Hargrove). They're playing 20 Questions when Gerry turns on the radio to hear about a rabies infection that started in Taiwan and has spread to 12 other countries. A cop on a bike hits Gerry's car and takes of his side view mirror then keeps going, Gerry gets out to retrieve his mirror and see what is going on when an explosion occurs in a building not too far. As Gerry is getting back into his car another cop on a motorcycle comes up and starts yelling at him to get back in his car. The cop is then ran over by a truck that is plowing through the traffic jam. People begin running in a panicked frenzy through the streets. Gerry gets his family out and they run through the city. They notice a woman bashing her head through a van, and then attacking the driver by biting him. Moments later, the man begins contorting and then becoming a zombie, chasing the Lanes around. The family finds an RV and drives out.

On the road, Rachel begins having an asthma attack, and Karin left her medication in her purse. Constance finds a rifle in a compartment. Gerry gets a phone call from a former co-worker named Thierry (Fana Mokoena), who is the Deputy Secretary General at the United Nations. He is getting out of New York, which is also under siege. He asks Gerry where he is, saying he can locate him and his family and get him out safely.

The family drives into Newark to a store where people are running and grabbing supplies. Karin grabs what she can and Gerry, armed with the rifle, goes to get Rachel some medication. The pharmacist pulls a gun on him thinking he might be infected, but he hands Gerry the medicine when he sees that he's not. A man starts to attack Karin, and Gerry shoots him down. When they get out of the store, they see that the RV has been taken, but they spot an apartment nearby. Gerry calls Thierry and asks how long until they can be rescued, and Thierry says not until dawn. Gerry tells him that they will be on the roof of an apartment with flares to signal them.

The family runs to an apartment and takes refuge with a Hispanic family. They provide the Lanes with food as Rachel is given her treatment. As the morning comes, Gerry tells the family they can go with them to be safe, but they stay behind and give Gerry a knife to tape to his rifle, as well as a magazine to protect his arm. The Lanes begin to make it to the roof, when they are chased by the zombies. The zombies attack the Hispanic family, infecting the parents. Their son, Tommy (Fabrizio Zacharee Guido), escapes and catches up with the Lanes. A zombie attacks Gerry and gets blood in his mouth before he kills it. They all make it to the roof as Karin lights a flare to make a signal. Gerry runs to the edge of the building and counts to ten in case he is infected. A helicopter arrives and takes the Lanes and Tommy with them, just as a group of zombie, including Tommy's father, run after them, only to plummet to the ground.

The helicopter arrives at a U.S Navy ship, which has become the home base and headquarters for the US in the Atlantic Ocean. It is shown that the infection has spread through other parts around the globe. The officers believe that the infected really are zombies, while a young virologist named Fassbach (Elyes Gabel), explains that virus' appear at random all the time, using the Spanish Flu, as an example. He goes on to explain that if he can find patient zero, the first infected, he can make a vaccine, possibly even a cure.

The Lanes meet with Thierry, and Gerry is told to go with Fassbach and other officers to help find a cure. In return, Gerry's family will be protected. He bids his family goodbye and tells Tommy to take care of the ladies. Gerry and Karin each have a phone that will be used to contact each other.

Gerry and company travel to Camp Humphreys in South Korea, where a group of zombies run after the team after they hear Gerry's phone ring when Karin tries to call him. In the chaos, Fassbach slips and accidentally shoots and kills himself. Gerry and the other officers are taken into the camp by other soldiers. Gerry learns from Captain Speke (James Badge Dale) that the zombies are attracted to noise. He tells Gerry about a local who was foaming at the mouth and attacked a doctor as he was examining him, which is why there is a room of charred remains. Gerry comes across a prisoner (David Morse) who was a former CIA agent that was caught selling arms to North Korea. He tells Gerry that the North is surviving with the extra weapons, and then mentions how Israel is surviving because they've built a large wall to keep the zombies at bay. The prisoner tells Gerry to go to Jerusalem to find a man named Jurgen Warmbrumm, who might have prior knowledge to the spread of the disease. As the team heads out back to the plane, another group of zombies come out. Gerry makes it, along with the pilot, but Speke is bitten and kills himself to avoid turning. Some zombies make it into the plane but are dropped out once the plane takes off.

As the morning comes, Gerry makes it to Jerusalem and meets with Warmbrumm (Ludi Boeken). We learn from him that while Gerry worked at the UN, he wrote a disparaging piece about his superiors, which affected his career, but Gerry just wants to know whatever Warmbrumm knows in regards to where the disease started. Warmbrumm tells him that a communique was sent with the message that there was a zombie outbreak occurring, which possibly originated in India, though it isn't certain. He takes Gerry to the safe zone in the city where the large wall keeps the zombies out, and the uninfected are being let into the zone. The zombies hear noise from the music being played within the walls, and they manage to climb over the walls and attack the people. Gerry rushes out with a soldier known as Segen (Daniella Kertesz). At one point, he spots a boy standing in the midst of the stampeding zombies. The boy crouches in fear, and the zombies just run right past him. Segen is bitten by a zombie, and Gerry cuts off her hand to stop her from turning. He goes with her and other soldiers to a plane as Jerusalem falls to the zombies.

On the plane, Gerry treats Segen's wound. He starts to recall certain things from his experience, such as Speke mentioning that he evaded zombies even with weak legs, as well as the boy in Jerusalem who didn't get attacked, and he starts to piece things together. In the back of the plane, a stewardess opens a compartment and is attacked by a zombie. Everybody in the front notices the commotion, and Gerry sees that people in the back are being bitten and are turning. He has everybody in the front create a barrier using their luggage, but one passenger drops a bag, alerting the zombies. They rush to the front and start attacking. Segen shoots at some zombies, and Gerry takes a grenade on her belt. He removes the pin and tosses it, blowing out a hole in the plane, causing a depressurization that sucks the zombies out. The plane then crashes past a forest.

Gerry wakes up in the wreckage to find that he's been impaled with a metal shard. He sees no survivors except for an infected woman. Segen turns up alive and the two of them walk to a World Health Organization facility.
?

Back on the Navy ship, Gerry is declared MIA, and his family is evacuated from the base.

Gerry wakes up in the facility next to two doctors. His wound has been treated and he is told he was out for three days. They are suspicious until he has them use his phone to call Karin. Thierry answers and tells Gerry that the family was taken to a camp in Nova Scotia. Gerry tells the doctors that he believes that the zombies are not attacking people who are ill, since it would be ineffective in spreading the disease. This would present people with a sort of camouflage that would get people past zombies. He volunteers to test a terminal but curable pathogen on himself and to step into a chamber with a zombie to prove this, but he is told that the B-wing where the pathogens are is full of zombies after one doctor became infected and spread the disease to his colleagues. One doctor tells Gerry that they need to make it through the skybridge into the B-wing, which is blocked off by a stack of chairs.

Gerry, Segen, and another doctor carry weapons for defense as they quietly walk past the zombies while the other doctors watch them through security cameras. They almost make it out quickly, but the doctor makes a noise that alerts the zombies. Segen and the doctor run back outside while Gerry stays behind. He manages to find the vault with the pathogens and nearly breaks into it until another doctor gives him the code to enter. He finds a bunch of pathogens and begins to store them when another zombie stands outside the vault. Gerry makes a sign for the doctors to see so they can tell his family he loves them, and then he injects himself with a pathogen. He opens the vault and lets the zombie walk in. He comes close to Gerry but does not bite him. With that, Gerry takes the other pathogens and walks out of the vault. He creates a diversion by letting a bunch of soda cans fall from a vending machine to get the zombies away from the exit, and they all run past him. Gerry is treated with the cure, and he is able to leave the facility.

All over the world, we see that the vaccine has been spread so people can move past the zombies without being bitten. At the same time, people are fighting back against the infected, killing them however they can. Meanwhile, Gerry arrives at the camp in Nova Scotia and is reunited with Karin and the kids.

Gerry concludes with a narration, saying that this is far from over. If anybody can fight, they must fight. The war has just begun. http://www.themoviespoiler.com/Spoilers/WorldWarZ.html
