Five kids are visiting a little cabin in the woods for a holiday partying. What they don't expect is that they release a family of zombies from the grave who attack them all!
What's weird is that the whole thing is a setup by a bizarre cult. The cabin and surroundings are on top of a high tech complex full of enclosed monsters which can be released at will. These kids have been chosen for this as sacrifices to the cult's gods.
Marty and Dana survive the zombies and break into the base, releasing all the monsters to cause havoc amongst the cult. The cult leader (A surprise cameo of Sigourney Weaver), shows up at the end to tell them that unless they go through with the sacrifice, the dormant gods beneath the Earth will wake and destroy all of humanity. The gods are really down there, and starting to wake up. She pleads with them to complete the ritual, and then tries to kill Marty, but they refuse to take part and manage to survive.
With the failed ritual, the gods wake and begin the destroying humanity.
How the deaths occur:
Jules (Anna Hutchinson) - beheaded by the family of backwoods zombies in front of her boyfriend Curt.
Curt (Chris Hemsworth) - Tries to jump over a giant gorge to the road to freedom on a motorbike so he can go get help. Hits the invisible force field trapping the kids at the cabin and falls to his death.
Holden (Jesse Williams) - Stabbed through the throat by one of the backwoods zombies after telling Dana everything would be ok.
Truman (Brian White) - Ripped apart by evil scarecrows and zombies while trying to protect the facility.
Hadley (Bradley Whitford) - Eaten by a merman, who then ejects his blood through its blow-hole,
Sitterson (Richard Jenkins) - Accidentally jabbed to death by Dana in the confusion of the monster breakout. Dies asking Dana to kill Marty to seal away the elder gods.
Cult Director (Sigourney Weaver) - mauled by one the backwoods zombies, and then Dana kicks them both into the pit with the evil gods.
Dana (Kristen Connolly) and Marty (Fran Kranz) - presumably killed by the gods after surviving a mauling by the backwoods zombies and a werewolf respectively.
Many others killed by demons, demonic ballerinas, ghosts, giant snakes, zombies, bat-creatures, werewolves, and a killer clown.
